At Blackwater North State School students have the opportunity to study a wide variety of Music. Our music program includes classroom Music, Instrumental Music and Music Club.
Classroom Music
Students participate in weekly activities that involve singing, playing instruments, moving, listening, improvising, and composing music, using the elements of music to express ideas through sound. They are assessed on their ability to demonstrate knowledge and understanding across the 3 dimensions of composing, performing, and responding.
All lessons are aligned with current curriculum documents and policies to encourage every child to succeed in their music education.

Music Club
Students have the opportunity to participate in seasonal lunch time activities, including bucket drumming, ukuleles or choir! The activity on offer changes depending on where student interest lies!
Instrumental Music
Blackwater North State School’s Instrumental Music program offers opportunities for students from Year 4 to Year 6 to learn a concert band instrument. Students can learn the flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, French horn, baritone, euphonium, trombone, and percussion instruments.
Lessons are held during school time, free of charge. Students also participate in a weekly band rehearsal before or after school.
The only expected costs incurred by parents is
- School administration fee $15
- Purchase/ or hire of the instrument (Instruments are available for hire through the school resource scheme for the first year of the program - $50 hire fee)
- Music Stand (approx. $30)
- Music Book (approx. $25 to $30)
- Consumables (cork grease, valve oil, reeds etc)
- Your time and encouragement to make sure your child practises at home.
