Guidance Officers are experienced teachers who have completed additional studies in Education, to Master's degree level (Guidance and Counselling).
Guidance officers may work directly with, and advocate for, students in addition to working with teachers, school support personnel, family, other specialists or external support providers.
Support offered by guidance officers includes providing advice and counselling on educational, behavioural, vocational, personal, social, family, and mental health and wellbeing issues.
Psychoeducational assessments and career development also form an important part of the work guidance officers undertake to enhance positive educational outcomes and future pathways for all students.
The Guidance Officer is usually a member of the school wellbeing team and they offer leadership and supportive case management for referred students and their families within a strength based approach.
